My obsession with this cream blush dates back to June 2017 (for reference I am writing this post in July 2018). I don’t remember how I came across it, I just knew that I needed it. I decided to hold off buying the blush because a) the colour I wanted was out of stock in my nearest store, and b) I was about to travel overseas and would be going through duty free. This is where my journey began…
I swatched every colour blush at the Auckland airport but held off in the hopes of getting a better deal, because we all know that Auckland is absurdly expensive compared to overseas cities. I swatched again at the Vancouver airport and after an hour of indecisiveness I finally decided on the shade Raspberry. To my utter disgust and horror the Bobbi Brown counter was completely out of Raspberry… I pulled myself together and continued on… At the Munich airport I made a beeline for the duty free makeup department only to be told that the Bobbi Brown counter was a 15 minute shuttle away and my flight boarded in 20 minutes… the cream blush evaded me again. Somehow I missed the blush again at the Dublin airport and at the Zurich airport the duty free makeup was no where to be seen… When I arrived at LAX I had almost given up all hope of ever holding a fresh Raspberry in my hand… Yet again, I made a beeline for the Bobbi Brown counter, begged for the shade Raspberry and was told that it was OUT OF STOCK. Utterly dejected, I moped over to the Benefit stand and spent some money there to help soften the cream blush blow. Exactly one month after this tragic saga began, I found my self back in New Zealand sans a Bobbi Brown cream blush.
Fast forward to the end of November 2017 and I stood at the Bobbi Brown counter in Smith & Caughey’s department store, having been lured in there by the Black Friday sales. On the back of my hand were two cream blush swatches… my beloved Raspberry and a new discovery… the shade Rose. The colour was perfection. Feeling giddy and adventurous (I mean, I had only been considering this shade for 10 minutes!) I skipped to the nearest sales assistant and announced happily that I wanted to purchase the cream blush in Rose… “Oh I’m sorry”, the sales assistant told me, “It looks like we’re ALL OUT OF THAT SHADE”. A feeling of determination gripped me, I would not let the blush escape me again! “POINT ME TO THE NEAREST STORE” I announced, and was sent off to the other Smith & Caughey’s store in Newmarket. I pounced upon the makeup counter, calmly asked for Rose, and before I knew it I was walking out onto the street with my very own Bobbi Brown cream blush tucked safely away in my bag (I ought to add, a blush which I had paid full price for, as apparently Bobbi Brown doesn’t partake in Black Friday).
What is the point of this story, you ask? Well apart from making me sound crazy, this story shows that you should give other shades a chance! If I had truly considered Rose I could have bought it at the Vancouver airport duty free where it was a full $25 LESS than it is in NZ (please explain to me why we have to pay so much more over here…). Don’t get hung up on a single shade/brand/dress/idea/friend… keep an open mind.
To conclude, this blush is creamy and pigmented, it lasts all day, blends like a dream and works perfectly on both my cheeks and lips. The perfect handbag accessory, it’s a multipurpose product that comes with a little mirror. It’s just as good as I imagined it would be!
