I seem to unconsciously hoard sample products. I end up with at least 3 samples for every beauty product that I buy, which has resulted in what I like to refer to as ‘the sample boxes’ (see picture below for reference). While sample products have their uses, unfortunately I never get around to trying the majority of them. Usually very tiny, sometimes I think ‘why on earth would I ruin a good skin week to try out a sample sized cleanser that I know I’m only going to get one use out of?’. How is one even meant to see any results? However, sometimes I find myself landed with a really great decent sized sample and I give it a go!
Out of the hundreds of samples that I’ve tried, only a few have really made an impact. So here are the sample sized products that I would happily purchase full sized:
Drunk Elephant ‘T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum’
This night serum is a blend of 12% glycolic, lactic, tartaric, citric and salicylic acids and raspberry extract. It’s kind of a multitasking serum – it’s hydrating and as it’s a chemical exfoliant it also helps to decongest the skin and get rid of dead skin cells. It’s meant to help with blemishes, shine, visible pores, pigmentation and fine lines – something for everyone! I absolutely loved the sample I tried and this is definitely a product on my wish list – although it retails for $143 for 30ml, so definitely more of a wish at the moment…
Kate Somerville ‘ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment’
ExfoliKate is not like any regular exfoliator – it’s made with lactic acid, fruit enzymes, salicylic acid, aloe vera, honey and vitamins A, C and E. Both a chemical and physical exfoliant. Together, the ingredients help to exfoliate the skin, reduce the appearance of pores, soothe and nourish the skin. The result is skin that really glows! It’s like having a mini facial at home. When I got a (generous) sample of this from Mecca Cosmetica they suggested to use it in the shower when your face has been in the steam a bit – I definitely think it works best this way!
Heimish ‘All Clean Balm’
My favourite thing about this cleansing balm is that it doesn’t linger on the skin. Sometimes it’s great to have a cleansing balm that you can still feel on your skin after washing it off as it can provide extra nourishment, but I really love how this balm washes completely off. It melts into your skin and is fantastic at taking off makeup. It’s hypoallergenic, free of parabens, fragrance and artificial pigments. Definitely a good choice for anyone with dry skin.
Caudalie ‘Vinoperfect Radiance Serum’
This serum targets dark spots, pigmentation and acne scars. It’s made with viniferine which is a natural ingredient from grapevine sap that is apparently 62 times more effective at brightening than vitamin C. It smells heavenly and just feels really luxurious to use. It’s also very hydrating and is great to apply under a moisturiser. I first tried a sample of this while in Venice, LA and the smell takes me straight back to that wonderful summer holiday!
Trilogy ‘Rosapene Radiance Serum’
This is a lightweight and delicious smelling serum. Made with a blend of rosehip oil and powerful antioxidants, this is a certified natural serum which is meant to nourish skin and help protect against free radical damage. It also has sea algae to help boost skin radiance. The texture is very light and instantly hydrating – it’s another great option to use daily before a moisturiser!
Aēsop ‘Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Serum’
So it’s probably clear by now that I love serums… but this one is different! It’s a lightweight formula made with grape, parsley seed extracts, Panthenol (Vitamin B5), aloe vera and chamomile. The serum is meant to hydrate, calm and fortify the skin. It’s very moisturising, soothing, gentle and absorbs right away – it smells delicious too! Herbaceous and calming, I love it.
I might have to do a Part 2 another time as I have a few more samples I’d love to buy full sized and I’m sure I’ll come across more good finds in the future! Have you ever purchased a full sized product after trying a sample? Do you have a wish list of full sized products you’d like to buy?
