The exact week that I decided to officially start a blog and Instagram account to review skincare and makeup, my makeup bag was stolen (along with a heap of other stuff…clothes, my car keys, house keys!). I had stupidly left it in the back seat of my boyfriend’s car while we were eating at a restaurant and when we returned to the car we found that it had been broken into (lesson ‘don’t leave goods in your car‘ well and truly learnt the hard way). That same weekend we had attended the university Law Ball and so I had all of my absolute favourite makeup and skincare in the bag. My holy grail products. My special makeup. The kind you break out for a fancy occasion, like a ball.
To those of us who genuinely love makeup and skincare, working hard and saving up for a product that you’ve dreamed about for a long time is the best feeling ever! Having that kind of thing stolen feels so invasive, but while it is upsetting and infuriating, it is definitely not the end of the world. At the end of the day, those things are just things. They’re plastic and powder. They’re glass and liquid. You’ll replace them in a year and move on to something else.
When my makeup bag was stolen I didn’t repurchase absolutely everything and instead took it as an opportunity to try new products. However, some products I can’t live without and those are the ones I repurchased.
Nine months later and a beauty blog under my belt, I have been introduced to a tonne of new skincare and makeup products, however I would still repurchase the products that I did.
Here are the skincare and makeup products that I repurchased when my makeup bag was stolen:
- Embroylisse ‘Lait-Creme Concentre’
- Dior ‘Lip Glow’ in 001
- Mario Badescu ‘Hyluronic Eye Cream’
- Collection ‘Lasting Perfection Concealer’
- Chi Chi eye brow pencil
- Mario Badescu ‘Facial Spray With Aloe Herbs And Rosewater’
- Elizabeth Arden ‘Eight Hour Cream’
- Wet n Wild ‘Megaclear Brown and Lash Mascara’
- Real Techniques brushes
- Chi Chi makeup sponge
Here are some products that I didn’t repurchase but now wish I had:
- Giorgio Armani ‘Lasting Silk’ foundation (this remains the best foundation I have ever used – the colour match was so incredibly perfect and nothing I have used compares to it…even my Chanel ‘Aqua Vitalumiere’).
- Benefit ‘High Beam’
- Innis Free ‘Mineral Shading’
Now if my makeup/skincare bag was stolen I have more holy grails that I would 100% repurchase (Anti Bac lotion and Living Luminizer I’m looking at you…). Is there a skincare or makeup product that you would straight away repurchase if it was stolen or lost? X
