A Beauty Lover’s Christmas Gift Guide: 2017

A guide for the last minute shopper who needs gifts that are good quality, beautifully made and will appeal to anyone who loves skincare, scents and jewellery!  As my first gift guide EVER, this is a collection of products which I have used for a long time, from brands which I swear by.  I hope you find something here that will make a good gift for a loved one (or even yourself)!

I have not one, but three incredible candles to share with you!  In my opinion, candles are the perfect accessory for any room.  A good candle will instantly add elegance and style.  What makes a good candle?  Long burning, beautifully scented soy, enclosed in a beautiful jar – the type you want to display and light in your home!  The three candles I have to share with you are the epitome of luxury.  They’re good quality, beautifully scented candles that you can trust will make a beautiful gift this Christmas.

Kingdom Candles $48

A new brand on the market, these candles are New Zealand made, triple soy scented and burn for 60 hours.  This one in English Pine & Cedar is perfect to burn during the festive season!  It’s impossible to do these candles justice when describing the scents, but English Pine & Cedar smells like a fresh forest.  Another favourite is Pomegranate & Peach which smells sweet, fruity and fresh (the range also includes Blackberry & Cassis, Lychee & Black Orchid and Lemongrass & Lime).  Although it will be a very sad day when my Kingdom candles are finished burning, just think about how beautiful the jar will be to store makeup brushes in!

Kearose: Christmas Limited Edition Candles

If you haven’t smelt anything from Kearose then you NEED to get yourself into a store and have a smell.  Triple scented and New Zealand made, I’ve loved these candles for a long time.  For me, I want a candle to smell incredible, but I also want it to look beautiful!  These Kearose candles fit the bill.  If the person you’re gifting to is the type who would love something beautiful to display in their room or on their beauty table, then this candle is perfect (plus, if they’re a beauty blogger or Instagrammer they will appreciate how beautiful it looks in photographs!)

I’ve long been a fan of White Peony & Lychee Blossom, but this year Kearose has two Christmas limited edition scents: Orange Blossom & Berries and Blackberry & Cedar.  One word: Divine.  Described as a blend of orange blossom, pink champagne, summer berries and passionfruit, the first limited edition candle is sweet and fruity… a true New Zealand summer scent!  If you’re in the Northern Hemisphere then maybe Blackberry & Cedar would be better suited… it’s fruity, but there’s a hint of pine which makes me think of a white Christmas.

Kearose: Superior Collection Candles $48

These candles are called superior for a reason… Hand poured, high grade soy, natural oil and a double wick, these candles will burn for up to 80 hours.  The black glass jar is a true statement and you can be assured that it will match any room.  The scent I recommend is Coconut & Lime – summer in a candle!  It smells tropical and luxurious, the kind of scent that reminds you of summer evenings at the beach.  Don’t be surprised is you go to buy this candle as a gift and end up getting one for yourself too… (I can’t be the only one guilty of doing this!)

Buying skincare for another person can be a difficult task… you may not know their skin type, what they need, or whether they have a preference when it comes to scents and products.  However, here are two great options which will suit someone just starting off, or someone who is already a skincare buff.

Origins Superstar Minis $55

If you follow me on Instagram you’ll know that I LOVE this set.  It features 7 of Origins best selling products!  While these are minis, they’re actually quite big and they come in a cute cotton tote bag.  To give you an idea of the value for money, this set come with a FULL SIZE eye cream which normally retails for $47… so for only $8 more you’re getting an extra 6 mini (but really not so mini) products!! This skincare collection is perfect for someone, like a sister or best friend, who is just getting started with a skincare routine, but maybe isn’t sure what products they want to be using.  The Superstar Minis set comes with an eye cream, day moisturiser, night cream, exfoliator, mask, face wash and hand cream. If you know someone who is already a big Origins fan, this set is perfect for taking with them when they travel.

This set includes the Checks And Balances Frothy Face Wash (30ml), Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask (15ml), Modern Friction Nature’s Gentle Dermabrasion (15ml), GinZing Energy-Boosting Moisturiser (30ml), GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream (15ml), Make A Difference Rejuvenating Hand Treatment (15ml) and High-Potency Night-A-Mins Renewal Cream (30ml)… lets be honest, a 30ml face cream can actually last a long time!

Hunt Skincare $14 – $55

This skincare range is hand made by facialist Caroline Hunt.  It’s completely natural and she uses organic ingredients where she can!  These are stand-alone products which each make perfect gifts, but together they would be great a set for a skincare lover.  If I had to narrow down the best thing about Hunt Skincare, I would say the smell!  Each product smells incredible.

  • The Daily Face Oil ($$49.95) is very lightweight, absorbs well, it’s hydrating, isn’t greasy, and it smells delicious – what more could you want?  The scent is floral and earthy, making it a pleasure to use each day – plus it’s rich in antioxidants!
  • The Facial Mist ($40) has also become a stable in my skincare routine – smelling of roses, honey and natural goodness, which skincare lover wouldn’t want a new face mist?  No one, that’s who.
  • The Daily Body Oil ($55) is a rich blend of oils – a little goes a long way and it leaves the skin very hydrated.
  • The Organic Vanilla Lip Balm ($14) is hydrating and makes for the perfect stocking stuffer!

Jo Malone Perfume $116 – $232

If you’ve managed to find your way to a beauty blog then I’m sure you will have already heard of Jo Malone!  In my opinion, Jo Malone perfumes are the epitome of luxurious and classic perfumes.  If you’re choosing a perfume for someone who has never tried Jo Malone before, or you’re not quite sure if they’ll love the scent, I’d recommend getting them a 30ml bottle ($116), rather than a 100ml ($232).  It still lasts a long time, but it’s also the perfect way to try out a scent without committing for too long.  If you know the person is a huge fan of Jo Malone already then you could splash out and surprise them with the full 100ml bottle!

A Jo Malone perfume could not be more luxurious, from the way it’s carefully wrapped in black tissue sprayed with the chosen scent, presented in the classic cream and black bag, to the heavy glass and silver bottle.  Each scent smells incredible.  This is the perfect gift for someone you truly care about!

My favourites are:

  • Pomegranate Noir: probably my favourite scent of all time, no amount of describing will do it justice… rich, warm, wintery and yet fresh YOU NEED TO SMELL THIS.
  • English Pear and Freesia: my current scent, this is fresh and floral with a hint of fruit and something sparkling… I once read it described as “sparkling pear champagne wrapped in fresh freesia” and I couldn’t agree more.
  • Lime Basil and Mandarin: Jo Malone’s signature scent, this is fresh, citrusy and perfect for summer.
  • Basil and Neroli: this is crisp and alive – the citrus and basil keep the scent fresh and perfect for any time of year.

Kearose Diffuser $45

You’re scared to buy a perfume as a gift, the person already has enough candles, but you know they love scents?  Try a diffuser!  Diffusers are something which shouldn’t be overlooked as they provide a beautiful scent in a room, but unlike a candle, you don’t need to remember to burn them!  Arguably better than a candle, if the sticks are flipped every couple of weeks, this diffuser can last up to four months!  It’s a gift that will last.

This scent Black Raspberry is divine.  Kearose describe it as a fruitful blend of raspberries, black raspberries, with plum and mulberries sitting on a base of black vanilla, vetiver and almond.

Bastide Hand Cream $18

This is a luxurious French hand cream that anyone would love to have!  Ideal to popping into your handbag, this hand cream is nourishing and softening.  My favourite scent is Figue d’Ete – it smells deliciously of fresh figs and pine.  Made with Provence olive oil, lavender extract, and shea butter, this cream doesn’t leave any greasy residue behind, so you can actually turn door handles and open doors after using it (I’m sure at least some of you know what I mean by this…).  The person who seems to have everything probably doesn’t have this (especially if they live in NZ as it’s new to our market), so it’s a great Christmas gift or stocking filler!

Lindi Kingi Bracelets $25 – $39.50

I love these Lindi Kingi Design bracelet sets as there’s a colour for everyone.  They are well made bracelets that you can either wear separately or stacked together.  The mix of stones and metallic beads are beautiful!  These bracelets would make the perfect friendship gift for someone you care about – plus they’re an easy gift to post!

Kirstin Ash Charms $34

These charms make great gifts as they can be looped onto existing chains and worn on a necklace or bracelet, or you can have them attached permanently onto charms bracelets as I’ve done with some of mine.  There’s a charm for everyone – you can really show that you know the other person well by picking a charm that suits them well.  To make it even more personal you could get an initial charm, a zodiac charm, or choose one of the coloured crystal charms which matches the person’s birthstone colour!   The charms come in silver, gold and rose gold.

I hope that you find something on the list which you love, or even just get some inspiration! Merry Christmas everyone!
